Day 30 Coverack to Helford A Milestone day all round

So the 30th day of this adventure is also my lovely wife’s birthday, Happy Birthday Madeleine, and it is the day when I reached the halfway point in the walk at Porthallow. 315 Miles completed and now I have to do it all again, who’s idea was this ??????

Today was a completely different day, the path changes from dramatic cliffs and beaches to quarry workings, rural field paths, and then the most beautiful of coastal inlets where we end at Helford along the side of the Helford River. Once again I was joined by Tim and Maisey, and we were greeted by a stunning morning. The path starts along a lowland marsh and very soon you pass the former quarry workings, at Deans Quarry. After Godrevy Cove the path is now diverted inland to avoid the working quarries, into the lovely hamlet of Rosenithon. After Trenance you arrive at the little bay of Porthallow. We engage in conversation with a boatbuilder, and I take photographs of the rear of the sign that confirms you have reached the halfway point. It is only at the end of the day that it is pointed out to me that the seaward side declares the milestone so we have to return to confirm. The path follows the coastline to Nare Point, and turns into Gillians Creek. If you are lucky with the tide you can cross on stepping stones, if not it’s anotherv 2.5b miles around the creek. You guessed it, another 2.5 miles added. This now becomes one of the most enchanting sections of the path, and is definately “Swallows and Amazions” country. We head out to Dennis Head and meet “Hairy Dave” the Cornish version who needs a hand installing a memorial bench. All well and good but he has left it back at the yard. So then a very plesant 1.5 miles back into Helford, through an enchanted wood, and a wonderful creek. This is a special place. No wonder a lot of (famous) people choose to reside here.

Hurrah a seal
Ready to go
