Day 6 Braunton to Instow : Yuk

A completely different today as the coast path turns inland to negotiate the Taw estuary. The route takes you along two disused railway lines, either side of the estuary eventually arriving at Instow. So not everyone perspective of the coastal path. The points of interest are the marines air base at Chivenor, the lovely old town of Barnstaple, and some of he features of the old Atlantic Coast Express railway track features. Barnstaple holds grim memories for me, when as a 12 year old my Dad was rushed to hospital there following a heart attack, whilst we were on holiday. Thankfully he went on to make a good recovery. The path is tarmac most of the way, hard on the knees and not at all inspiring in the most part. A £2 bus ride, of 50 minutes to recover Dave’s car from Braunton was very entertaining.
