Day 47 Brixham to Babbacombe: Not the best but a milestone

Chris and I headed out of Brixham on an overcast morning with the hussle and bussle of an active fish market in full swing. This was to be a day of urban travel, and if I am honest not to my liking. The first couple of miles take you up and through a nice woodland path around Churlston Point to Broadsands, a nice beach area with a multitude of nicely decorated beach huts, all in pastel colours. From Broadsands we walk adjacent to the steam railway and the little boys in us are excited to see the train pass. We drop down into Goodrington Sands another nice quiet beach but it is an overcast day and half term is over. We noe reach the outskirts of Paignton, with the expanse of Paignton Sands looking like the day after the night before as teams are removing staging, fun fair rides and heras fencing all used for the previous two days air show. We are now on the concrete promanade in a built up area and never far from the main A3022. Paignton joins with Torbay which joins with Torquay, some lovely old hotels and some signs of the usual seaside dross. This is the English Riviera, with a mix of grand terraces, amusement parks and some very elegant hotel buildings, overlooking the sea. We are both pleased to be through Torquay harbour and back on to the more coastal path past Thatcher Point and Hope’s Nose. After Devils Point we enter Babbacombe Downs, which has a mirriad of paths, and we evnetually find our way to our very welcoming guest house. So a different day, some lovely sights, and some not so lovely but this is the coastline and some very popular destinations for many people. 13 miles covered today and 500 in total now walked, yes I do know the song !!!!
