Today was a family affair with Lauren, Richard, Betty, Nina and even William joining me to complete the short section from Bolberry Down to Salcombe. We set of to the point where Richard and I left the path yesterday, to discover a completely different world from the one we left in the dense mizzle and rain yesterday. We had passed a hotel no more than 20 metres from the path and not even seen it yesterday, so it was a lovely experience to share this short section with all of the Kemp Tribe. Poor Richard had William in a back carrier after about 100 metres, and we soon headed into the valley at West Soar, a pretty steep downhill followed by an equally steep uphill, and to their credit and my pride everyone took on the challenge without complaint, with Nina leading the way up the steep slope. They then decided to sit on top of a very high rock at the summit, the confidence of youth is not good for the heart of the slightly older person. William was now awake and trying to run what was left of the section, so we stop for snacks. The snack stop refereshed all and we headed through the warren on a decent long cliff top section. Around and across Bolt Head and we come to the viewpoint at Sharp Tor. From here the whole estuary and Salcombe Harbour come in to view. The promise of Ice Creams at the end lifts the group and we head down into South Sands for an afternoon on the beach, with the “Chelsea set” : I forgot to pack my pink chinos so feel a bit out of place. A proper rest day tomorrow with the family and back to the big push on Friday.
