So an early start today as have to get this leg done and then get to Newquay Airport for a flight home, thanks to the train drivers who are on strike. The taxi drops me at Lamorna Cove, and the driver has lived in St Ives for 27 years and has never been here, he could not beleive how lovely it looked, with the sun rising and a very still sea. A climb around the headland takes your life into your hands (and feet) and then its more of the rocks, gorse and narow up and down paths until you reach Mousehole. The tide is out but the harbour looks like a painting, and a short walk to the Rock Pool Cafe I come across a wonderful community initiative with the repair of the Rock Pool. Naturally I am now a “Friend” of Mousehole rock pool support group. The path then takes you along the sea wall all the way to Newlyn, passing the now closed Penlee Lifeboat Station, and into the heart of the Cornish Fishing Fleet home. The place just breaths fish, and it certainly smells of it also. Most of the landed catches are probably destined for the tables of London and further abroad, with big artics leaving full of all sorts of fish. A turn onto the promenade abreast of Penzance beach and this now really has the feel of an urban walk. Past the famous (or infamous for Madeleine) Jubilee Pool, and in to the heart of Penzance, not a pirate to be seen. Past the silent train station, and a long haul to Mariazion, with the wonderful St Michaels Mount in full view. The last time I was here they were filming scenes from Game Of Thrones. So a quick 9 miles today and I leave the path with 276 miles covered. Happy and sad duties for the next five days and back to Cornwall on the 14th May.
