Day 25 St Ives to Lands End. Poldark Country, and then special

Back on the path today with Gav dropping me at Pendeen. A really interesting section of the path, highlighted by the Tin Mining relics of the past and present. A start across a fairly flat path almost immediately brings you to Geevor and a multitude of evidence of mining, past the active mines at Levant, and on to Bottallack. The distraction of the spooky structures distracts you from the sea for a while, and again you mind conjures up images of men and boys walking the very path you are walking to go into the mine, some of which go far out under the sea. After the headland at Kenidjack Castle, you drop fast into a valley cross the stream and rise to the fantastic Cape Cornwall. There is a lookout station here where you can see the Scilly Iles on a fine day, and today was just such a day. A long, long climb out of the valley at Cape Cornwall leads to a section of the path where once again you need to be a mountain climber, testing but rewarding. At Aire point you clamber up on a very rocky section to be greeted with the increadible sight of Gwynver beach, and the even more impressive Sennen Cove. God made those beaches and man has not spoilt them it really is a special section of the path. Climbing out of Sennen, I was agitated by people who were taking all of this for granted, why I do not know. Around Pedn Men Du, and Lands End is in sight. It is a much maligned place but what else can you do with the “end of the road”, the sign says 3147 Miles to New York, 874 to John O Groats, and I know that I am now heading East having started West, turned South and hopefully the wind is on my back for the next 373 Miles. 11 miles covered today, a very rewarding 11 miles .
