Day 14: Trebarwith Strand to Port Issac, where’s the Doctor

A tough start to the day after a treat of a stay at the Port William. There is no warm up on this leg, 20 metres of flat followed by 186 vertical steps, and all in a hail storm, its then a roller coaster of a walk to Port Issac that always seems to be in view but never gets any closer. Five very big up and downs, one named High Cliff , this leg needs attention. Mine is grabbed early on by the slippery nature of the slate/shale down hill sections. For four miles I do not see any human life, this is not day tripper walking. My concentration is then very firmly focussed when I attempt to cross one of the four streams and end up on my backside in the water. Thankfully nobody filming , but it leaves three hours of walking in very wet kit. I keep telling myself that skin is waterproof. One big manoeuvre required after a stone stile, where the cows have created a swimming pool of yellow liquid, I do not want to land in that so a pretty hairy dirversion along the top of the wall with the sea one side 300 feet below, and the field the other side five feet below. Thankfully the sun came out to brighten my spirits as I reached Port Gavern, and then into Port Issac. Range rovers, Volvo’s and aggressive sea gulls all point to Emmet’s . I try to find that doctor to see if he can cure this four week chesty cough, but it looks like he has left town. A very pretty harbour, and a dry safe haven for the night.

    Jes

I have walked some of that and it is tough – shame no one was there to film the splash.

There will be a Doctor further along the coast – get the chest sorted!

    Keep going.
